Stormwater

The purpose of the Stormwater Department is to keep Bryant compliant under the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit as required by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (A.D.E.Q.). Staying compliant means performing activities tied to state requirements, including inspections of new construction projects, municipal facilities, waterway outfalls, basins, and other elements of the stormwater conveyance systems within the city limits of Bryant.

The City also supports public outreach, public participation, good housekeeping, training, and illicit discharge elimination to help reduce stormwater pollution and improve environmental health. The Stormwater Department also identifies drainage issues and works toward solutions.

Stormwater Pollution Prevention

Stormwater is rain that falls on roofs, lawns, or paved areas (like driveways and roads) and is carried away by stormwater pipes, culverts, and ditches. As it flows, stormwater can pick up debris, chemicals, dirt, and other pollutants. This untreated water can be discharged into waterways used for recreation and, eventually, drinking water sources.

Things You Can Do

Plant trees and vegetation to filter pollutants and slow runoff.
Don’t Litter
Keep trash and debris picked up to protect waterways.
Sprinklers
Keep water on your lawn and off streets and sidewalks.
Fertilizers
Use organic options when possible and apply only as recommended.
Dumpsters
Keep lids closed and plugs in place to prevent polluted runoff.
Car Washing
Use commercial bays when possible; at home, wash on lawn with safe detergents.
Pet Waste
Pick up and dispose of pet waste properly.
Septic Systems
Service routinely and keep systems in proper working order.
Auto Maintenance
Eliminate leaks that contaminate parking lots and roadways.
